A pair of late second half goals gave visiting Dowling a 2-0 victory over Wilmington University in women's soccer nonconference action on Thursday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

On a wet and rainy afternoon the Wildcats (2-5 overall) couldn't find the back of the net as Dowling (4-2-1) scored in the 72^nd and 88^th minutes to come away with the nonconference victory.

Outshot 8-2 in the first half, Wilmington goalkeeper Julia Brown made five saves to keep the Wildcats in the contest.

The Wildcats had the first chance in the second half, as Golden Lion goalkeeper Melissa Guglielmo saved a shot from freshman Chandler Lages.

In the 72^nd minute, Dowling's Kelly McQuail turned with the ball atop the 18-yard box and blasted a shot that went over Brown's hand and under the crossbar that turned into the game-winner.

Chelsea Grace, Cella Cerrato, and Kellie MacIntosh each recorded shots that required Guglielmo to make a save following the Dowling goal, but the Wildcats were unable to find the back of the net.

Pressing into the offensive zone, the Wildcats fell victim to a quick counter attacker as the Golden Lions' Allie Merrill snuck through the Wildcats' defense and received a through ball from Emily Boge. In alone on Brown, Merrill gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with her first goal of the season in the 88^th minute.

Dowling outshot the Wildcats, 16-8, for the match and earned more corners, 4-1. Brown made five saves for the Wildcats while Gugliemlo made five saves for the Golden Lions in the win.
