Jhanae Colston and Brice Hansen Earn CACC Rookie of the Week Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The wins are starting to come in for the Wilmington University athletics department, resulting in a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookies of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Women's soccer went 2-0 last week with a pair of wins over stiff competition, and freshman Jhanae Colston had a say in each win to earn the CACC Rookie of the Week. Brice Hansen helped lead the Wildcats in four matches last week, earning the volleyball CACC Rookie of the Week as well.

Jhanae Colston (Virginia Beach, Va./Granby) led the Wildcats (2-3-1) to a 2-1 win over nationally ranked No. 15 Molloy on Wednesday night, breaking a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 81st minute to spring the upset. It was her first collegiate career goal. She then came back and assisted on the first goal of a 2-0 win against Caldwell on Sunday.

Brice Hansen (Lyman, Va./Lyman) helped the volleyball team to a 1-3 week, but two of those losses were in five sets to conference favorites. She finished second on the team in averaging 2.52 kills per set and third on the team in averaging 3.35 digs per set. She put down 17 kills while hitting .357 in a five-set loss at Jefferson, adding 17 digs for a double-double. She also had a double-double against Adelphi, putting down 11 kills while adding 16 digs. She had double digit digs in all four matches and now averages 2.14 kills and 2.09 digs per set on the year.

Colston's teammate Mio Nakajima earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll after making six saves in two games with a shutout. Men's soccer's Mads-Emil Roestbjaerg scored two goals off the bench against Caldwell to earn a spot on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. And volleyball's Kacey Affrunti also earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll after leading the team with a 2.82 kills per set average while hitting .324 and a 1.06 blocks per set average.
