TEMPE, Ariz. - - The 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Runner Up Wilmington University women's tennis team checks in at number eight in the first Oracle/ITA Division II Women's East Regional Ranking of 2018, announced on Wednesday.
The Wildcats are the third CACC team in the list of 10 teams, as the two-time CACC Tournament Champions Goldey-Beacom came in at second in the year's first poll. Concordia College, the team the Wildcats beat to advance to the CACC Tournament Championship, comes in at number three as well.
The Wildcats caught fire the second half of the fall season, rattling off eight straight wins to reach the CACC Tournament Championship. The team finished third in the CACC regular season standings with a 6-2 record, going 10-6 overall in the fall season.
The team last lost on Sunday, October 1 to Concordia, 6-3, but then rattled off eight straight wins to head into the postseason. They beat USciences, Caldwell, Holy Family, the District of Columbia, Post, and Jefferson to round out the regular season.
The Wildcats then posted a 5-0 victory over Post in the CACC Tournament First Round match. The team then head to Post University for the CACC Tournament Semifinals and took down second seeded Concordia, 5-2, to advance to their first ever CACC Tournament Championship. Goldey-Beacom edged the Wildcats, 5-3, to capture their second straight CACC crown.
The Wildcats played matches against four of the top five teams in the region during the fall, and five teams that made the rankings overall.
