WILMINGTON, Del. - - Third-year head coach Troy Donato was honored as the 2021 United States Tennis Association (USTA) Delaware District College Coach of the Year after leading his program to a 9-0 fall season and its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship.

Troy Donato was honored at the USTA Annual Award Ceremony on Sunday, held at the DuPont Country Club.

Coaching in this third year with the Wildcats, which includes the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled season in which the Wildcats didn't compete, Donato has turned a team around that went 4-9 and missed the CACC Tournament in 2019 into a championship caliber program. The Wildcats went a perfect 9-0 this fall, capturing the 2021 CACC Tournament Championship with a 4-0 win over Jefferson at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

This spring, the strong play has continued, as the Wildcats have moved into and up the ITA Division II National Rankings, being as high as No. 26 in the country last week.

Donato and the Wildcats will play in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament later this spring, earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA's with the conference championship.
