NEWARK, Del. - - A fast start led to an easy three set victory for the Wilmington University volleyball team as it swept Chestnut Hill, 3-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action for its seventh consecutive win on Tuesday night in the new WU Athletics Complex.

Set scores for the match were 25-5, 25-15, and 25-20.

Wilmington (9-2, 2-0 CACC) jumped all over the visitors in the first set, scoring the first 12 points of the match and cruised to the finish line for seconds straight sweep, and fourth in its last five matches overall. Chestnut Hill (3-5, 0-1 CACC) opened its CACC schedule on Tuesday night and fought back in the third set before the Wildcats regained momentum.

With sophomore setter Kasey Couch serving the Wildcats rattled off 12 straight points to open the first set, making Chestnut Hill burn both of its timeouts in the process. Couch picked up four service aces during the run while the ball was spread around the offense with freshman Alex Siolos, junior Katie Shorter and senior Nicole Wiechecki all put down at least one kill in the run.

Following a point by the Griffins, the Wildcats went on another lengthy run, scoring the next seven points of the set to take a commanding 19-1 lead. Wiechecki 's jump serve caused all sorts of issues for the return game of the Griffins, as she picked up four aces in the seven point swing.

Another three consecutive points by the Wildcats gave them a 22-3 advantage as freshman Kaitlin DiGiacinto and junior Brittany Biddle collected kills on the run. Biddle knocked down two more terminations late in the set while senior Brooke Foskey finished off the opening set with a kill, 25-5.

Wilmington used three big runs in the second set to grab control of the game and match for good. After getting down 1-0 in the second frame, Wiechecki was back to serve once again and the Wildcats picked up five straight points to take the lead. Now leading only 7-6, Wilmington got three aces from DiGiacinto in a seven point run to widen the gap once more and never look back.

The Griffins scored three of the next four points to breathe life back into the visitors but Couch went behind the service line and led the Wildcats to another five consecutive points to take a 20-9 lead. The ball wound up on the hand of Shorter three times during that mini run, as she finished with six kills in the set. DiGiacinto and Foskey put the Griffins away with back-to-back kills to end it, 25-15.

Chestnut Hill showed life in the third set, as they battled back from a 9-3 disadvantage to knot the match up at 13-13 midway through the game. Wilmington did not help itself throughout the final frame, as the Wildcats committed 10 hitting errors and five services errors to keep the Griffins around.

Following a timeout by head coach Kim Huggins-Habbert at 13-13, the Wildcats came out and scored the final 12 of 19 points to claim the set and the match. Wiechecki gave the Wildcats a 2-0 record in the CACC with a kill from Couch to seal the deal at 25-20.

Shorter led all attackers with 10 kills on 18 swings, committing only one error for a .500 attack percentage. Wiechecki finished with eight kills while DiGiacinto added seven and Foskey and Biddle chipped in with six each.

Couch and Siolos distributed the offense, collecting 20 and 12 assists respectively. DiGiacinto led the back row with 11 assists on the night.

At the net, Shorter denied two attacks by herself and aided on two block assists while DiGiacinto had the other Wildcat lone block. Biddle and Siolos added two block assists each as DiGiacinto and Foskey each added one block assist.

As a team, the Wildcat hit .223 for the match, with an astounding .524 attack percentage in the first set. To open the match the Wildcats had 13 kills on 21 swings with only two errors. The Wildcats also held the Griffins to a negative .012 attack percentage for the match.

Wilmington University will round out its tournament play for the 2012 season this weekend, as they head Waltham, Mass. to take part in the Bentley Invitational. The Wildcats will face off against California (Pa.), Queens (N.Y.) and Stonehill, starting on Friday.
