PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Volleyball Earns South’s No. 2 Seed, Hosts N#3 Post in CACC Tournament First Round

NEWARK, Del. - - For the first time since 2015, the Wilmington University volleyball earned the right to host a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament First Round contest, earning the No. 2 seed from the South Division and will play the North Division's No. 3 seed Post University

The Wildcats secured the No. 2 seed in the South Division with a 14-4 CACC record while Post is the North Division No. 3 seed by virtue of a 7-10 CACC record. The Wildcats are 20-12 overall on the season while Post's overall record stands at 10-19 heading into tonight.

Post came to the WU Athletics Complex during the regular season, where the Wildcats swept the Eagles, 3-0, on November 6 at the WU Athletics Complex. Tuesday night will be the fourth meeting between the two programs in the CACC Tournament. The Wildcats took the first two meetings in 2004 and 2012, but fell to the Eagles in the 2015 semifinals and the 2018 First Round.

Scouting the South's No. 2 Wilmington University Wildcats:

The Wildcats come into tonight's contest going 8-2 in their last 10 matches. But one of those losses came in their most recent match, a 3-1 loss at Felician on Saturday.

As a team, the Wildcats rank 7th in the CACC in putting down 11.22 kills per set, 5th in the CACC with a .173 attack percentage, 7th in the CACC in dishing out 10.47 assists per set, and 8th in the CACC with 1.67 aces per set. But they pick it up defensively, ranking 3rd in the CACC in getting to 16.97 digs per set, and carry a commanding lead in the CACC with 2.54 blocks per set.

The Wildcats are led by Mandy Behiels who ranks 12th in the CACC in putting down 2.76 kills per set. The all-around player is also 18th in the league at 3.08 digs per set. Heather Pedrick ranks 20th in the CACC in putting down 2.44 kills per set, 15th with a .235 attack percentage, 14th in dishing out 4.49 assists per set, 3rd overall at 0.50 aces per set, and 14th overall with 3.28 digs per set.

Angel Oliver has set a new WilmU single season record with 129 block assists on the year, leading the CACC and ranking 3rd in all of NCAA DII with 1.42 blocks per set. She leads the country with 166 total blocks after denying 12 attacks at Felician on Saturday. She is now nine total blocks away from Katie Shorter's single season program record with 175. Oliver also ranks 10th in the CACC with a .257 attack percentage and 32nd in putting down 2.00 kills a set.

Scouting the North's No. 3 Post University Eagles:

After losing to the Wildcats on November 6, the Eagles finished their regular season with wins over Caldwell and Chestnut Hill. The 3-1 win against Caldwell snapped a six-match losing streak for the Eagles. Post is 3-7 in their last 10 matches overall.

As a team, the Eagles rank 9th in the CACC in putting down 10.57 kills per set, 7th in the CACC with a .144 attack percentage, 9th in dishing out 10.11 assists per set, and 5th with 1.87 aces per set. Defensively, the Eagles rank 8th in getting to 15.50 digs per set, and 11th overall with 1.11 blocks per set.

Individually, the Eagles are led by Madelynn Boop who is second in the CACC with 362 kills, putting down 3.77 kills per set. She is also second in the CACC in averaging 4.22 points per set this season.

The Eagles' setters Colleen Romero and Elizabeth McGrath are ranked 7th and 8th in the CACC in dishing out assists, respectively. Romero passes out 7.03 assists per set while McGrath gives out 6.06 helpers a game. Lydimar Soto and McGrath are tied for 8th overall with 0.41 aces per set while Nelly Diaz ranks 4th overall with 5.05 digs per set this season. Aniya Goodman is 29th in the league in denying 0.47 attempts a set.
