Elly Collins Named CACC Defensive Player of the Week for Third Time

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the third time this season, Wilmington University senior libero Elly Collins was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 week.

Elly Collins (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) and the Wildcats defeated Georgian Court, 3-1, and then came back and earned a 3-2 victory at Felician on Saturday. They are now 14-12 overall and hold an 8-5 CACC record.

Collins continues to lead all of NCAA Division II with 557 digs on the season, ranking ninth in the country in averaging 5.51 digs per set. This past week, she collected 53 digs in nine sets, averaging 5.89 digs per set in the two victories.

On Wednesday night at home, Collings came up with 26 digs in a 3-1 victory over Georgian Court and then went on the road and added 27 digs in a five set victory at Felician. She also added three aces at Felician. For the week, she only committed two reception errors, going 51-for-53 with a .962 success rate.

Shannen Litten was named to the Weekly Honor Roll for the Wildcats as well, hitting .359 with 19 kills and only five errors. She also totaled 13 blocks in the two matches.

The Wildcats have three games remaining in the regular season, starting with a short trip to Goldey-Beacom on Thursday night. The Wildcats and Lightning are set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
