JOPLIN, Mo. - - Sophomore standout Althea Davidson became the first Wilmington University cross country runner to compete at the NCAA Division II Championship meet, placing 130th at the Missouri Southern State University Cross Country Course on Saturday afternoon.

Davidson, who placed fifth at the NCAA Northeast Regional to qualify for the National Championship, ran the 6,000 meter meet in 22:38.2 to beat 119 runners and finish in the top half of the championship meet.

Adams State's Alicia Nelson won the individual National Championship but beating the field by eight seconds, crossing the finish line in 20:03.3. Grand Valley State finished with its five runners all coming in under 40th place to capture the team championship with 101 points. Augustana (S.D.) finished second with 104 points while Adams State placed third with 109 points.

Davidson wrapped up an extremely strong second season on the cross country course on Saturday, winning three meets during the regular season and then capturing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference individual championship and CACC Runner of the Year. She also finished second at the Delaware Valley College Invite and fifth at the RiverHawk Cross Country Invitational to round out the regular season.

The sophomore collected five CACC Women's Runner of the Week awards and was recently named the CACC Student-Athlete of the Month for October.

The men's cross country team captured the CACC Team Championship for the first time in program history and head coach Keith Jones was voted the CACC Men's Coach of the Year for 2012.
