Wildcat Runners Althea Davidson and Jesus Amezquita Earn CACC Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - After running to her first career individual win at the 12th Annual Wilmington University Cross Country Invitational last Saturday, sophomore runner Althea Davidson was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Runner of the Week, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Men's freshman Jesus Amezquita was named the CACC Men's Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive voting period as well.

Davidson (New Castle, Del./William Penn) narrowly defeated teammate Jeanette Halliburton in the women's 6k run, finishing the Wildcats' home course in 20:53.94. Davidson defeated her teammate by 1.99 for a Wildcats' one-two finish, but beat the rest of the field by 20.29 seconds. She helped lead the team to a fourth place finish at the WUXC Invite.

Amezquita (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) earned his second straight CACC Men's Rookie of the Week award after becoming the first freshman to cross the line at the WUXC Invite in a time of 30:46.88, good enough for 11th place overall. He was the fourth Wilmington University runner to finish the Carousel Park course, helping the team win the team title outright.

Joining Davidson on the weekly honor roll is Georgian Court's freshman Jamie Hand as the Women's Rookie of the Week after finishing 17th overall at the WUXC Invite.

Goldey-Beacom's Stewart Reich took home the CACC Men's Runner of the Week after earning medalist honors at the Baruch College Invitational out of 81 runners. He finished with a time of 28:32, leading Goldey-Beacom to a second-place team finish.

Wilmington's senior Bill Steele earned CACC Honorable Mention weekly honors after winning his second consecutive individual meet with a first place showing at the WUXC Invite in 29:21.53. His time bested the field by 21 seconds.

Both Wildcat squads will head to Nashua, N.H., this weekend to compete on the same course as the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional meet is being held at on November 4.
