Steele and Amezquita Sweep First CACC Men’s Cross Country Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Senior runner Bill Steele was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week while freshman teammate Jesus Amezquita earned CACC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, for the first for the period ending September 4.

In the first meet of the 2012 season, Steele captured the overall title at the Delaware Valley College Invitational with a time of 28:03.12 in the 8 k race, beating the field by 11 seconds. The senior was the 2009 CACC Rookie of the Year and the 2010 CACC Runner of the Year.

Amezquita outshined the freshmen class in his first collegiate event, finishing ninth overall at the DVC Invitational and becoming the first freshmen in the CACC and among other Division II schools to cross the finish line. He finished the 8k race in 29:13.97.

Philadelphia's Taylor Falvey earned the CACC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week with her first place showing in the women's 6k race at the DVC Invitational while Nyack's Rebecca Wakeley picked up the CACC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week with a fourth place finish at the DVC Invitational.

Wilmington sophomore Althea Davidson earned CACC Women's Cross Country Honorable Mention with her second place overall finish at the DVC Invitational, finishing the 6k in 24:31.08, less than five seconds off the lead.

The Wildcats host their 12th Annual Wilmington University Cross Country Invite this Saturday at Carousel Park. The women start at 10 a.m. followed by the men at 11 a.m.
