Wilmington Athletics Well Represented on CACC Weekly Reports

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - - Four Wilmington University student-athletes were at the top of their game last week, as the Wildcats were strongly represented in this week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Reports, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Cross country had a pair of weekly recipients, as senior Megan Ferrick was named the Women's Runner of the Week while freshman Miguel Suero was named the Men's Rookie of the Week. Women's soccer sophomore Loran Wyrough was named a Co-Player of the Week while men's soccer junior Clifford Nwechefom was named the Player of the Week.

Ferrick (Elkton, Md.) was the first CACC participate to cross the line at the Jack St. Clair Memorial Championship on Saturday, finishing third overall on Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. In what essentially was the CACC Championship Preview, Ferrick beat the field of CACC players with a time of 24:38.1 in the 6K event. It is the first time in her career she has been named the CACC Player of the Week.

Suero (Rockville, Md.) helped lead the men's squad to a team championship at the Jack St. Clair Memorial Championship on Saturday. He was the first freshman to cross the line on Belmont Plateau, coming in seventh among scoring runners, ninth overall. His time of 29:06.5 in the 8K event was 13 seconds faster than the next freshman. He was the second Wildcat finisher in the event, trailing only Ken Fontal. It is the first time in his career he has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week.

Wyrough (Hamilton, N.J.) led the Wildcats to their lone win last week, a 4-2 victory at Nyack on Saturday. Wyrough scored all four goals for the Wildcats, securing her first hat trick of the season and second of her career. Wyrough opened the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute before giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute. Tied 2-2 at the half, Wyrough scored the game-winner in the 61st minute before adding her fourth of the game in the 76th minute. She now has 10 goals on the season, second in the CACC. She was named Co-Player of the week with Georgian Court's Lizzy Kroon. It is the first time this season Wyrough has been named a Player of the Week.

Nwechefom (Port Harcourt, Nigeria) led the Wildcats to another perfect 2-0 week, extending the team's winning streak to seven straight. The week started with Nwechefom lead the Wildcats past NSCAA East Regionally ranked No. 5 Bridgeport, 4-0, on Tuesday. Nwechefom scored in the fourth minute for the eventual game-winner before adding an insurance goal in the 48th minute. The junior scored the game-winner on Saturday at Nyack as well, tallying his team leading 10th goal of the season in the 49th minute to give the Wildcats the 2-1 victory. He now has four game-winning goals on the season, all coming in the past four games.

Cross Country's Ken Fontal was also named to the Weekly Honor Roll for the Wildcats, leading the men's team to the Jack St. Clair Memorial Championship, finishing second with a time of 27:43.8.
