Tiffany Banning, Cassidy Burr, and Joel Oquendo Named CACC Runners of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three Wilmington University cross country student-athletes were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Runners of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the conference office.

After running at the 35th Annual Don Cathcart Invitational, the Wildcats' Tiffany Banning was named the Women's Runner of the Week while Cassidy Burr and Joel Oquendo were selected as the CACC Rookies of the Week.

Tiffany Banning (Middletown, Del.) led the Wildcats in the 6K race in Salisbury, Maryland, finishing fourth overall in the field of 103 runners. She set a new 6K personal record last weekend, finishing with a time of 23:26.30 to give the Wildcats four points.

Cassidy Burr (Cream Ridge, N.J.) improved upon her 6K personal best by four seconds, finishing 23rd overall in a time of 25:13.50. She helped the team with 23 points, as the Wildcats finished fifth overall out of 13 teams.

For the second week in a row, Joel Oquendo (Pennsauken, N.J.) has been named the CACC Men's Rookie of the Week, being the third Wildcat to finish on Saturday at the Don Cathcart Invite. He ran the 8K course in 26:58.00, finishing 16th overall to give the Wildcats 14 points. He helped the Wildcats to a second-place finish, only behind host Salisbury.

Vaughn Lackman, the top finisher for the men's team on Saturday, was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll as well. He set a new PR for an 8K course by 20 seconds, finishing in 25:27.80 and in sixth place.

The Wildcats travel to North Jersey this weekend to compete in the NJIT Highlander Invitational. The women start the event with a 12:15 p.m. first gun.
