    The NCAA National Softball Committee announced the seedings for the upcoming 2024 NCAA DII Softball Championships and the Wilmington University softball team is seeded third overall among the eight teams at the final site. The Wildcats will face No. 6 Western Washington in the opening round on Sunday, May 19.

    A six-run top of the first inning allowed the 17th ranked #WilmUSoftball team to cruise to its second consecutive East Regional Championship on Wednesday, defeating Adelphi, 12-0, in five innings to sweep the Super Regional series and advance to the NCAA DII Softball National Championships. It is the second straight trip to the Division II Softball Championship for the Wildcats and will now play at the Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, Florida, in part of the NCAA Division II National Championships Spring Festival. Delani Sheehan pitched a one-hit shutout with three strikeouts to improve to 19-7 on the year. It is the sixth consecutive shutout for the Wildcats. The team did not allow a run in the Regional or Super Regional rounds. Gabriella Saucedo finished with three hits and two RHI while Emma Zimmerman had two RBI as well.     Haley Downin gave all the runs Kylee Gunkel and the 17th ranked #WilmUSoftball team defeating No. 2 Adelphi in the opening game of the NCAA DII East Super Regional best-of-three series on Tuesday afternoon at Asbury Field. Wasting no time in the bottom of the fifth, Haley Downin belted the first pitch from Hibbs, depositing the ball over the fence in left field for the 1-0 lead. It is the fifth consecutive shutout for Kylee Gunkel and Delani Sheehan, with the last run the Wildcats have allowed coming on May 3 in the CACC Tournament. The Wildcats are now 43-14 overall and will host the Super Regional.

    Kylee Gunkel tossed her third complete game shutout of the postseason as top-seeded #WilmUSoftball advanced to the NCAA East Region 1 Tournament Final with a 3-0 victory over No. 4 Assumption on Saturday at Asbury Field. Kylee Gunkel improved to 21-5 on the year, the second most wins in a single season in program history, only trailing herself from last year when she won 23 games. Lexi Moore had two of the team’s three hits while Stewart had the RBI single. Taylor Gillis, Lexi Moore, and Tristyn Stewart all scored runs for the Wildcats.

    #WilmUSoftball couldn't have dreamt of a better start to the NCAA Division II East Region 1 Tournament on Thursday, as the top-seeded Wildcats came out and defeated No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas, 10-0, in five innings at Asbury Field. On Thursday, it was a five-run fifth inning that set the mercy rule into effect, as Taylor Gillis hit a three-run homer to right to end the ball game. The Wildcats scored in every inning except the fourth, scoring 10 runs on 11 hits. Delani Sheehan threw a two-hit shutout in the process. Taylor Gillis went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer, knocking in four. Lexi Moore, Tristyn Stewart, Sam Freeland, and Haley Downin all added two hits each. Emma Zimmerman had two RBI without a hit. Sara Miller set the program record with her 23rd homer, a three-run bomb in the second inning. She went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI, a triple shy of the cycle. Sam Freeland went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI as well. Delani Sheehan improved to 15-7 with 3 strikeouts in the 5-inning complete game. Wildcats advance to the winner's bracket of the CACC Tournament.
