In addition to the three Wilmington University student-athletes that were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week earlier this week, Wilmington golf’s Joey Russo earned CACC Rookie of the Week on Wednesday, as announced by the conference office.
With teams playing through the day on Tuesday, the Players of the Week were held until Wednesday, and Russo (Sewell, N.J.) earned his second CACC Rookie of the Week honor after earning medalist honors at the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
Russo led the Wildcats to a second place finish in the tournament at Penn Oaks Golf Club hosted by West Chester University. Russo carded a 73-71 for a two-round score of 144 (+2) to beat the field of East and Atlantic Region squads by four strokes.
It is the second time this year Russo has earned CACC Rookie of the Week honors while also winning the weekly award on March 30. He leads all CACC freshman in the sport with two Rookie of the Week accolades.
