NEW CASTLE, Del. - - For the 10th time under head coach Brian August, the Wilmington University baseball team sits atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, defeating Felician, 20-3, to win the Conference Tournament on Saturday at Wilson Field.
With the win, the Wildcats earn the CACC's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. They await their seeding and who they will play with the NCAA Selection Show scheduled for Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
Head coach Brian August and the Wildcats have now won 10 CACC Tournament Championships in the NCAA era, adding one CACC Tournament Championship while still a member of the NAIA for 11 overall. August's Wildcats have now won titles in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2022, and now 2025.
Saturday saw the Wildcats score five runs in the bottom of the second to take control. Felician cut into the deficit with a two-run top of the fourth, but then the Wildcats scored 15 unanswered runs, including a four-run sixth, and a seven-run seventh to widen the margin.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the second, Nick Classie lifted the lid with an RBI single through the left side. Garrett Quinn added an RBI single before Brandon Grygo had a two-run single to give the Wildcats a 5-0 lead.
The Golden Falcons scored twice in the fourth before an injury forced starter Tyler Reinert from the mound. Dom Marotta induced a ground ball to escape further damage in the fourth. The Wildcats answered right back in the home half, though, getting a two-run, two-out single to right center.
Cam Trego launched a two-out, two-run homer in the fifth for a 9-2 lead, and then a four-run fifth inning extended the lead out to 13-2. Zach Rosenzweig, Kory Pritchard, and Nick Classie all had RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth.
Shawn Edevane hit an RBI double, Chase Fleming an RBI triple, and JJ Killen an RBI single to begin a seven-run seventh inning. Justin Hernandez and D'Angelo Ponce also had two-out RBI singles in the inning.
Tyler Reinert went the first 3.2 innings before Dom Marotta went 4.1 innings of relief for the Wildcats, allowing one hit while striking out a pair. Alex Krick then closed out the win by pitching the ninth. Marotta improved to 5-0 on the year.
Shawn Edevane led the Wildcats with three RBI while Brandon Grygo, Chase Fleming, and Cam Trego had two RBI each. Josearmando Diaz, Nick Classie, and Garrett Quinn had three hits apiece.
Brandon Grygo was named CACC Tournament MVP after batting 11-for-27 with three homers, two doubles, a triple, and 15 RBI in the postseason. He produced a 1.322 OPS in six playoff games. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Tyler Pirrung, Garrett Quinn, Josearmando Diaz, and Scott Borgmann.
