Wilmington University Places 18 Student-Athletes on the 2015 CACC Spring All-Academic Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) introduced its All-Academic Team for the 2015 Spring athletic season today, and 18 Wilmington University student-athletes from all four spring sports earned a place on the list.

A total of 154 student-athletes from the 14-conference school across seven spring championships have earned a place on the list. Softball led the championship sports with 62 honorees while women’s lacrosse followed with 22. Baseball and women’s track & field each had 20 honorees. Men’s track & field had 13 student-athletes make the academic team while golf (9) and men’s tennis (8) rounded out the list. Sixty-six (66) of the honorees are multiple time award winners, including 15 who are three-time honorees.

Among the three-time honorees is Wilmington softball standout Chelsea Botsch, who’s 3.59 cumulative grade-point average has her on the list for the third straight year. The Wildcats also have 11 repeat honorees, all making the list for the second time in their careers.

Baseball led the Wildcats with eight representatives on the CACC Spring All-Academic team, led by six repeat honorees. Mike Annone (3.81 cumulative GPA), Ryan Douglas (3.75), Sam Goines (3.81), Chris Lopez (3.60), Peter Monahan (3.75), and Josh Swirchak (3.71) all made the list for the second straight season. Jon Castro (3.51) and Tory Manfre (3.56) join the repeat honorees as first time award winners

The softball team placed six student-athletes on the CACC Spring All-Academic team, led by three-time honoree Botsch. Ashley Bennett (3.54), Kelsey Doherty (3.85), and Miranda Pedersen (3.55) are all repeat honorees while Michelle Panasiti (3.64) and Colby Wyatt (3.89) join the list for their first time.

The women’s lacrosse team placed three student-athletes on the CACC Spring All-Academic team, led by repeat honoree Ashley Kroll (3.53). Corinne Dries (3.50) and Gabby Spalt (3.56) join Kroll on the All-Academic team for the first time of their careers.

Rounding out he Wildcats on the CACC Spring All-Academic Team is golf’s Andreas Lunding (3.61). Lunding is another repeat honoree for the Wildcats, also making the team as a sophomore last season.

Of the 154 student-athletes named across the CACC, four academic award winners were also named their respective sport’s player/athlete of the year, two of which were Wildcats. Baseball’s Sam Goines and golf’s Andreas Lunding were named the Player of the Years for the Wildcats while Benas Majauskas (Concordia/men’s tennis), and Taylor Falvey (Philadelphia, women’s track & field) were also named their sport’s Player of the Year. In all, 35 student-athletes were named to both the All-Academic Team and the All-CACC team in their respective sport.

In order to be named to the CACC All-Academic team, recipients must have participated in a CACC-Championship sport in the Spring. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, and achieve a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher through the spring semester.
