DAVIE, Fla. - - The Wilmington University baseball team got off to another quick start in Florida, but another late game collapse plagued the Wildcats as Adelphi tied the game in the bottom of the ninth before winning, 4-3, in 12 innings on Friday night.

The Wildcats (3-7) led 3-0 with two outs in the eighth inning, but the Panthers (3-1-1) battled back with two runs in the eighth and the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth. The Wildcats left the bases loaded in the top of the 12^th before Adelphi finished the comeback with a walk-off single with two outs.

The Wildcats capitalized on a pair of errors in the top of the first inning, as Nick Macey hit a two-run single to score Max Carney and Christian Adorno for a quick 2-0 lead.

Nick Grant sparked a sixth inning run with a leadoff single. Now with two outs, Dakota Graham hit a inside down the left field line to bring in Grant for the 3-0 advantage.

Starting pitcher Zach Rumford was cruising through the first seven innings, only allowing four hits. Adelphi started the eighth with a leadoff single before Rumford induced a pop up for the first out. Rumford induced another pop up in foul ground, but the ball couldn't be caught to keep the batter at the plate. The batter worked a walk to force the Wildcats to the bullpen.

Another foul out produced the inning's second out but Adelphi was able to strike with a two-run triple to right center to cut the Wildcats' lead to 3-2.

Noah Latshaw came on in the ninth and quickly got the first two batters out, but a two-out single and wild pitch put the tying run in scoring position. A clutch RBI single back up the middle tied the game at 2-2 to force extra innings.

The Wildcat's best chance came in the 12^th, as Carney hit a bunt single, Adorno walked, and Brooks Ryan walked to load the bases with two outs. But the Panthers picked up a strikeout to get out the jam without any damage.

In the bottom of the 12^th, the Panthers rally started with a one-out single through the right side. Now with two outs, back-to-back singles brought in the game-winning run.

Carney led the Wildcats at the plate by going 3-for-6 with a run scored. Macey went 1-for-4 with two RBI while four other Wildcats collected one hit each.

Justin Mears was saddled with the tough loss, pitching 2.2 innings in extra frames with four strikeouts. Rumford went 7.1 innings with four strikeouts, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and one walk.

The Wildcats close out their Spring Break trip with another tough regional contest on Saturday. They square off against nationally 18^th ranked Southern New Hampshire at 4:00 p.m.
