Kutztown’s Second Half Gives Bears 100-86 Victory over Men’s Basketball

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - - The second half shooting of Kutztown sank the Wilmington University men's basketball team, 100-86, in conference action on Saturday afternoon inside the Keystone Arena.

The Bears (6-4) erased the Wildcats (4-5) three-point halftime lead by shooting 65.5 percent from the floor in the second half, including 6-of-11 from three-point territory to outscore the Wildcats by 14 in the second half.

Freshman Tyler Norwood scored a new season high with 25 points, shooting 10-of-19 from the floor including three three-pointers in the loss. Jermaine Head scored 23 points to go with eight assists, six rebounds, and four steals, but went just 1-of-6 from three-point territory in the game. Danny Walsh hit four three-pointers and finished with 22 points, hitting four three-pointer while adding four rebounds and an assist. Jordan Harding added three three-pointers for 11 points and five rebounds in the loss.

Jermaine Head put in a layup with 13:33 left in the first half to give the Wildcats their largest lead of the game, 17-9. Kutztown battled back to eventually tie the game at 22-22 with 9:59 left in the half and the teams went back and forth for the next two minutes. Jermaine Head hit a three-pointer to give the Wildcats a 32-28 lead, and they again led 35-30 with 6:01 left in the half. The Bears fought back to tie the game once again, 37-37, before a Danny Walsh three-pointer capped a 7-0 run for a 44-27 lead with 3:14 showing on the clock. Tyler Norwood scored the final bucket of the half, giving the Wildcats a 48-45 lead going into the break.

Jordan Harding hit a three-pointer to give the Wildcats a 61-58 lead, but went on a scoring drought over the next three minutes as Kutztown took a 64-61 lead and held a 70-65 lead with 70-65 lead with 11:39 to play. A 6-0 spurt game the Bears a 91-79 lead with 3:12 to play and the Wildcats could only get to within nine points the rest of way with 1:34 showing on the clock.

The Bears hit their final six free throws of the game to close out the contest, 100-86.

The Bears were led by Moe Williams and Anthony Lee who scored 26 points each while Williams secured a double-double with 20 rebounds in the game. Ricky Hicks scored 21 points as well for Kutztown. Williams scored 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the second half of the game.

The Wildcats remain in nonconference action for one more game, as they head to NCAA Division I Morgan State on Monday night. The Wildcats and Bears are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
