Wildcats Win Sixth Straight, Defeating Post, 18-8, at Home

NEWARK, Del. - - A 6-2 third quarter allowed the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team to defeat Post, 18-8, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex, extending its winning streak to six straight.

The Wildcats (6-3) used 10 different goal scorers in the win, as 12 different student-athletes recorded a point in the win. The Wildcats won the face-off battle, 20-10, leading to a 57-29 advantage in shots.

Post tied the game, 1-1, with their first goal of the game with 12:19 to play in the first quarter. But the Wildcats closed out the quarter with the final two goals, taking a 3-1 lead into the second quarter. Daniel Flynn intercepted a pass and quickly turned the ball up field. Carter Earl finished off a pass from Layton Avant with 59 seconds left, giving the Wildcats the 3-1 lead.

Back-to-back goals from Layton Avant and Gavin Paraschak put the Wildcats ahead, 6-2, with 7:19 left before the half. The teams traded goals the rest of the quarter, with Carter Earl scoring with 13 seconds left to send the Wildcats into the break leading, 8-4.

Post scored the first goal of the third quarter to get within 8-5, but then Gavin Paraschak, Toby Templeton, and Andrew Dzubak scored goals to give the Wildcats an 11-5 lead. After a Post goal cut it to 11-6, Josh Weston, Layton Avant, and Andrew Dzubak all scored in a row as the Wildcats opened a 14-6 lead after the third quarter.

Andrew Dzubak and Jon Gaglione scored early in the fourth quarter, making it five straight for the Wildcats to take a 16-6 lead. Cole Hamberger and Nathan Liederman got in on the scoring late in the fourth quarter as well, settling the score, 18-8.

Andrew Dzubak and Carter Earl led the Wildcats with five points each, as Dzubak scored four goals, and an assist and Earl scored two goals and added three assists. Layton Avant and Josh Weston scored two goals and an assist each. Gavin Paraschak and Josh Lovely added two goals each as well. Kyle Parker dished out two assists as well.

The sixth ranked defense in opponents' clear percentage only allowed the Eagles to go 17-for-24 in clears on Saturday, leading to 21 total turnovers by the visitors.

The Wildcats have a tough two games coming up, playing both Georgian Court and Chestnut Hill on the road. They head to Georgian Court next Saturday with the opening face-off set for 3:00 p.m.
