Wilmington Women’s Soccer Reach 10 Victories with 5-0 Shutout at Lincoln in Regular Season Finale

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team closed out its regular season with a 5-0 victory at Lincoln (Pa.) on Thursday afternoon in Lincoln U. Stadium.

The win propelled the Wildcats (10-7) into double-digit victories for the season. It is the sixth time since the Wildcats joined the NCAA Division II ranks the team won at least 10 matches, but the first time since the 2012 season.

The scoring started early but the Wildcats could only score once in the first half against the Lions (2-13). Monica Gonzalex-Montes tallied her first goal as a Wildcat in the seventh minute, getting a feed from Chandler Lages for the 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats out shot the Lions, 8-4, in the first half, but the early goal was the only damage as the teams went into the halftime break.

Another quick goal started the Wildcats on the right track in the second half, as Lages was returned the favor in the 47th minute, scoring her fourth goal of the season. Lages' cross caromed off a Lion defender and past Lincoln goalkeeper Kaylee Dennis for the 2-0 lead.

Back-to-back strikes gave the visitors come breathing room, as Alexis Perry scored her second of the year in the 68th minute, with an assist going to Jackie Trafton. Leading scorer Loran Wyrough scored her 17th goal of the season 2:10 later, buring a feed from La'Dae Boykin to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.

Boykin capped the scoring with her second of the season in the 84th minute, converting the pass from Kellie MacIntosh to put the Wildcats up 5-0.

Wilmington out shot the Lions, 20-9, for the match, while the Lions earned more corners, 3-0. Kierstyn Williams made three saves for the Wildcats to record her fifth shutout of the season.

The Wildcats will play Caldwell in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Tuesday, with the site yet to be determined. Caldwell squares off at Felician on Saturday and need to win to move into fourth place and host the Wildcats. If Felician wins, or the teams tie, the Wildcats will secure the fourth playoff spot and earn the home game in the First Round.
