Wilmington Falls to Chestnut Hill, 87-55, Despite Strong Effort from McDuffie and Bond

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division matchup, 87-55, to Chestnut Hill on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Griffins shot 50.0 percent from the field and controlled the game from start to finish, improving their record to 15-12 overall and 11-4 conference. They are locked into the No. 3 seed in the South Division for the upcoming CACC Tournament. The Wildcats 1-25, 0-14 CACC) hit the offensive boards hard, converting 23 offensive rebounds into 16 second chance points.

Jasmine McDuffie gave the Wildcats the lead twice in the early going as the Wildcats hung tough throughout the first quarter. A Samiyah McFarlane three-pointer had the Wildcats to within six, 22-16, but the Griffins scored four points in the final 14 seconds to take a 26-16 lead into the second quarter.

The run continued into the second quarter, as the Wildcats didn't score until a Mya Nisbet three-pointer with 5:29 to play. That ended an 11-0 run by the Griffins, as they extended their lead out to 33-16. The Wildcats would go just 3-for-19 in the second quarter, falling 19-10, in the frame to head into the locker room trailing 45-26. Jasmine McDuffie led all scorers with 10 points at the break.

An Aniyah Bond three-pointer brought the Wildcats to within 14 points, 47-33, early in the third quarter, but that would be as close as the Wildcats would get. The Griffins rebounded with a 9-2 spurt to claim a 56-35 lead and regain control. The Griffins would go on to win the third quarter, 22-18, and the fourth quarter, 20-11, to win the game. They held as large as a 32-point lead in the game.

Jasmine McDuffie led the Wildcats with 12 points, tying for the game high. She also had four rebounds, a steal and a block in the game. Aniyah Bond finished with 11 points and five rebounds, adding two assists. TyKeisha Hill scored nine points inside with five rebounds and two assists.

The Wildcats travel to Caldwell this week for their final road game of the season. The game on Tuesday is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off in Caldwell, New Jersey.
