Manuela Restrepo and Jeff Zoyac Earn Major Awards in Leading Five Wildcats on Women’s Soccer All-CACC Teams

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the first time in more than a decade, the Wilmington University women's soccer team fielded the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player and Coach of the Year, as Wilmington placed five student-athletes on the All-CACC Teams, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

For the first time since 2007, the Wildcats had the CACC Player of the Year, as Manuela Restrepo was voted the top play by the league's 12 head coaches. Also, for the first time in his career Jeff Zoyac has been voted the CACC Coach of the Year by the league's sports information directors. It's the first time a women's soccer coach has been Coach of the Year since 2012.

Joining Manuela Restrepo as a First Team All-CACC selection was Alyssa Ruggeri and Brianna Wons. Evelyn Payne and Julia Yuhase were named to the Second Team All-CACC.

Manuela Restrepo (Medellin, Colombia) continues to lead the CACC with 29 points on the year, finishing second in the league with 10 goals while leading the way with nine assists on the season. She had three games with multiple goals, including a hat trick at Post on September 16. She also scored twice at Adelphi and had a season high six points with two goals and two assists at Dominican. She also had a season's best three assists at St. Thomas Aquinas. Restrepo is the first Wildcat to be named CACC Player of the Year since Begum Malali in 2007 and is the third overall with Katie Mazzio in 2004.

Even with an injury plagued year, reigning CACC Player of the Year Alyssa Ruggeri (Wilmington, Del.) returns as a First Team All-CACC selection, finishing tied for sixth in the conference with 20 points. In 13 games played this year, she has eight goals and four assists. Since coming back from an injury, she has scored 16 points in the final six games of the year. She has three games with multiple goals, including a season high five points with two goals and an assist at Goldey-Beacom. Ruggeri also has two goals at Mercy and at Felician.

Brianna Wons (Cherry Hill, N.J.) joined the Wildcats this year and earns her first All-CACC selection, anchoring the defense to only allowing 15 games during the regular season. She was also the focal point in taking set pieces, scoring four goals while adding three assists for 11 points, ranking fourth on the team. She scored a goal and two assists against Molloy and again against Bloomfield on Homecoming. She also scored at St. Thomas Aquinas and against Bridgeport.

Playing in her first season as a Wildcat, Evelyn Payne (Wilmington, Del.) earned a Second Team All-CACC nod, scoring six goals while adding three assists for 15 points. She is also fourth in the CACC with three game-winning goals so far this season. Payne had game-winning goals against Dominican, Mercy, and Felician, adding other goals against Post, Holy Family, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Junior Julia Yuhase's (Huntingtown, Md.) hard work in the midfield was noticed by the league's head coaches as well, earning Second Team All-CACC status. She's started all 18 games this season, scoring two goals while adding an assist, but facilitates the motor of the Wildcats each game. She scored against Bloomfield and at St. Thomas Aquinas while adding assists against Molloy.

Now in his ninth year, Jeff Zoyac has captained a turnaround season for the Wildcats, going from 5-8-5 and out of the CACC Tournament in 2022 to an 11-3-4 record and a second place finish in the 2023 CACC Regular Season.

Jefferson's Alexa Callahan was named the CACC Rookie of the Year after leading the CACC with 11 goals and third in the league with 22 points. Her teammate Carly Yeager was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year while teammate Liv Riddel was named the Goalkeeper of the Year by virtue of being named the First Team goalkeeper.
