Matt Warrington Voted CACC Pitcher of the Year, Leading 10 Wildcats Named All-CACC

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University baseball team tied its program record as 10 student-athletes were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Conference Teams, led by CACC Pitcher of the Year Matt Warrington, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The Wildcats earned seven First Team All-CACC performers, the second most in program history, with three more being named Second Team All-CACC. The 2015 team placed eight Wildcats on the First Team All-CACC list. The 10 honorees tie the 2019 squad which had four first-teamers and six second-team performers.

Joining Warrington on the First Team are second baseman Erik Grady, outfielders Nick Nocella and Eddie Parry, designated hitter Jack McDonald, and pitchers Matt Boyko and Dom Grady. First baseman JJ Killen, utility player Tyler Pirrung, and pitcher Kyle Maxwell headline the Wildcats on the All-CACC Second Team.

Matt Warrington (Millsboro, Del.) becomes the seventh Wildcat to be named the CACC Pitcher of the Year, making it back-to-back years with Ryan Sandberg in 2022. He joins Pete Henyan (2005), Ken McGrady (2006), Joe Harris (2010 & 2011), David Hatt (2013), and Ryan Sandberg (2022), as Wilmington Pitchers of the Years in the NCAA era.

The junior leads the CACC and is 16th in all of NCAA Division II with a 2.05 earned run average. On the year, Warrington is 7-0 with 83 strikeouts, ranking 19th in NCAA DII with a 12.18 K/9 rate and 22nd overall in the country with a WHIP of 1.04. HE is currently 25th in the country in only allowing 6.75 hits per nine innings as well. Warrington struck out a career-best 13 batters in a complete game shutout against Alliance, being named the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week. In 61.1 innings pitched, he's only allowed 18 walks while batters are only hitting .211 against him on the year.

Erik Grady (Philadelphia, Pa.) enters the postseason second in the CACC and 85th in NCAA DII with a .391 batting average, going 34-for-87 so far this season. He is fourth in the CACC with a .472 on-base percentage and 16th overall with a .529 slugging percentage, amounting to a 1.001 OPS so far this season. He has seven doubles, a triple, and a homer while knocking in 28 runs and scoring 28 more.

Nick Nocella (Mantua, N.J.) is fourth in the CACC with a .379 batting average and fourth overall with a .664 slugging percentage. He is carrying a 1.073 OPS into the postseason, going 44-for-116 on the year with seven doubles, a triple, and a CACC fifth-best eight homers. He is 12th in the league with 38 RBI and has scored 26 more.

Eddie Parry (Levittown, Pa.) has enjoyed his only year as a Wildcat, batting 44-for-126 with eight doubles, a triple, and a CACC eighth-best seven bombs. He is hitting .349 on the year with a CACC seventh-best slugging percentage of .595, heading into the postseason with a 1.044 OPS. He leads the team and is 10th in the CACC with 39 RBI while scoring 30 more on his own.

Jack McDonald (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) is in the Top 5 of the CACC in the three percentage categories, ranking third overall with a .497 on-base percentage and third with a .685 slugging percentage. He is fifth in the CACC by batting .378, going 42-for-111 on the year with eight doubles, a triple, and eight homers which ranks fifth in the league. He is carrying a 1.182 OPS into the postseason, ranking third on the team with 34 RBI while scoring a team-best 35 runs.

Matt Boyko (Westbury, N.Y.) moves up to the First Team All-CACC after earning Second Team a season ago. He is 4-0 on the year, tossing 46.2 innings while ranking third in the CACC with a 3.47 earned run average. He has struck out 50 batters while only allowing 20 walks and heads into the postseason ranked sixth in the CACC with a 9.64 strikeout per nine innings ratio. He had a season-high nine punchouts in 5.2 innings at Slippery Rock and had eight in six innings of work at Alliance.

Dom Grady (Bensalem, Pa.) turned into the ninth-inning go-to for the Wildcats, leading the team with 20 appearances out of the bullpen. He is 3-3 overall with two saves, pitching 28.1 innings with a minuscule 2.22 earned run average. In his 28.1 innings pitched, he has picked up 38 strikeouts with only allowing five walks, averaging 12.07 strikeouts per nine innings. In CACC play, batters are hitting .193 against the righty and he has a 1.06 ERA in league play. He has saves at Shippensburg and at Caldwell.

JJ Killen (Frankford, Del.) earns a spot on the All-CACC Second Team after ranking fourth in the league with 14 doubles. He has gone 46-for-131 on the year with a .351 batting average and a .550 slugging percentage, the 11th best in the CACC. He's added four homers this year and is 26th in the league with 31 RBI while scoring 26 more. He has hit homers against New Haven, Slippery Rock, Jefferson, and Chestnut Hill.

Tyler Pirrung (Newark, Del.) has made an impression in his first season in college baseball, going 32-for-110 with a double and two homers. He is hitting .291 on the year, adding a .363 on-base percentage, and a .355 slugging percentage. In his freshman season, he has knocked in 20 RBI and added 23 runs, and when he's on the bases, he's gone 11-for-15 in stolen bases. He's switched between playing second base and third base this season.

Kyle Maxwell (Wilmington, Del.) earns his first postseason honor as well, heading into the playoffs with the team's second-most innings pitched this spring with 51.1 total. In 11 appearances, 10 starts, he is 5-2 overall with one complete game shutout. He is ninth in the CACC with a 4.91 earned run average while opponents are hitting .267 against the righty. He's struck out 35 batters with only 18 walks in his 51.1 innings. Maxwell's complete game shutout came on Senior Day, as he struck out four and walked one, allowing four hits in a 9-0 win over Felician.

Bloomfield's Tyree Bradley was voted the CACC Player of the Year after leading the league in batting (.400), RBI (60), and home runs (17). Second Team second baseman Gabe Silver from Jefferson was named the CACC Rookie of the Year while Post's head coach Ray Skjold was named the CACC Coach of the Year after leading his team to a North Division title and overall top seed in the postseason.

The double elimination portion of the CACC Tournament begins on Thursday hosted by Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. The Wildcats are the defending champions and are looking for their 10th CACC Tournament Title in the program's NCAA era. The Wildcats start with Felician on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
