Division I Colonials March Past Women’s Basketball

WASHINGTON, D.C. - - NCAA Division I foe George Washington overwhelmed the Wilmington University women's basketball team, using a 32-point second quarter in route to an 88-40 nonconference victory on Tuesday night at the Charles E. Smith Center.

The Colonials shot 50.7 percent from the floor, including hitting 12 three-pointers, in the game, and used a big 32-9 second quarter to distance themselves from the Wildcats (0-10).

Leading 29-13 with 6:32 to play in the second quarter, the Colonials went on a 17-2 run over the next 4:51 of game play, shooting 7-of-8 with two three-pointers to take a 46-15 lead. Another 8-0 run to end the quarter gave the home team a 54-17 lead going into the halftime break.

After Azayah Garrison scored with 3:51 to play in the third, George Washington went on a 15-0 run to end the frame and lead 76-21.

The Wildcats shot 7-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc, in the fourth quarter, going on to win the frame, 19-12. George Washington scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, but then the Wildcats went on a 14-2 run over a 5:05 span. Trinity Brittingham connected on a four-point play and then Amber Washington hit a three-pointer. Fatou Ndao hit a jumper and then Washington connected on an old-fashioned three-point play with 4:13 left in regulation. Ndao ended the run with another jumper, bringing the Wildcats to within 82-35 with 3:31 left on the clock. Skylar Parris got in on the scoring with a jumper and then Ndao scored the final three points for the Wildcats as they won the frame, 19-12.

Trinity Brittingham led the Wildcats with 12 points, hitting three three-pointers in the game. Amber Washington finished with 11 points and three rebounds while Fatou Ndao scored nine points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds. Amaja Mack dished out six assists with only committing one turnover.

The Wildcats return home for one more game before the mandatory NCAA Division II Holiday Break, hosting Cheyney on Friday afternoon. The opening tip is set for 3:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
