PAINESVILLE, Ohio - - Logan Stinson scored five of his team leading seven goals in the second half, leading the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team to its most impressive victory of the season, defeating Lake Erie, 15-10, on Saturday afternoon at Jack Britt Stadium.
The sophomore scored three goals in the fourth quarter alone, helping the Wildcats (3-3) to defeat Lake Erie who, much like Wilmington, are receiving votes in the latest USILA Division II National Top 20 poll.
TJ Caton and Keeshawn Bell scored back-to-back goals in the first quarter, giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead with 8:39 to play. The teams traded goals late in the quarter as Logan Stinson scored his first to end the frame and give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
Jimmy Cava scored his first of the day on the man-advantage followed by another goal from Logan Stinson to give the Wildcats a 5-2 lead with 13:58 to play in the second. The Storm answered with goals just 10 seconds apart but then the Wildcats scored the final two goals of the quarter, finding the back of the net with 47 seconds left to go into the lockerroom leading 7-4.
Nick Bruhn scored his first goal of the season to start the scoring in the third quarter and then Logan Stinson followed with back-to-back marks to give the Wildcats a 10-4 lead with 5:28 to play in the third. Lake Erie cut into the lead with back-to-back goals but then Jacob Herman scored the final goal of the third quarter to give the Wildcats an 11-6 lead going into the final frame.
The Storm scored the first goal of the fourth quarter but then Logan Stinson scored back-to-back unassisted goals to give the Wildcats a 13-7 lead with 8:32 to play and some breathing room. The teams traded goals the rest of the way, as Stinson added his seventh goal of the day with 44 seconds to play.
Jacob Herman added two goals and two assists while Jimmy Cava scored twice as well. Jake Copio scored a goal and added two assists as well. Jason Roland made seven stops in goal for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will take a week off but return to action with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play next Saturday at Caldwell. The opening face-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in New Jersey.
