
WATERBURY, Conn. - - Three goals in the second half by top seeded Post stunned the Wilmington University men's soccer team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Semifinal, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
With the win, Post has a chance to defend its CACC Tournament title for the fifth time, going for its sixth consecutive championship on Sunday. They will face Felician in the final starting at 10:00 a.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
Trailing 2-0 and down a player after a red card in the 40th minute, the Eagles (12-4-3) came out and scored in the 50th, 55th, and 87th minutes to shock the Wildcats (7-10-2).
The Wildcats came out firing on all cylinders as Michiharu Takanashi took a long pass down the middle, muscled it through the final defender and slotted it home in the seventh minute. Demario McCarthy and Lenny Greifenberg collected assists on the goal after the quick restart off an offsides from Post.
The Wildcats made it 2-0 in the 10th minute, as Alex Tarway curled one around the goalkeeper from the top of the 18-yard box in the 10th minute. Theo Faillon fed Tarway with a centering pass from the left side and the Wildcats led just 9:30 into the match.
The Eagles' Ricardo Moreno made four saves in the second half to keep the Wildcats off the board, including a team save off the line on Theo Faillon in the 73rd minute with the game tied, 2-2. Stanley Ho had a shot saved in the 78th minute and the Wildcats have four shots blocked in the final three minutes. Charlie Phillips had a last chance effort with 23 seconds left, but his shot sailed high, and the Eagles ran out the clock.
Wilmington led in shots, 21-8, including shots on goal, 9-6. Wilmington also led in corners taken, 5-3. Charlie Phillips made three saves for the Wildcats.
