Wildcats Defeat Holy Family, 17-6, to Secure No. 4 Seed in Upcoming CACC Tournament

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - A 17-6 victory for the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team secured the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, defeating Holy Family on Thursday night at Tiger Field.

The Wildcats (12-4, 6-2 CACC) will host a CACC Tournament First Round game on Monday afternoon. They will play No. 5 seed Bridgeport at the WU Athletics Complex.

On Thursday, the Wildcats scored four of the first five goals of the game, three of the four goals in the second quarter, and used a 5-0 run in the third quarter to separate themselves from the Tigers.

Makenzie Stritzinger and Ella Royer scored the first two goals of the goal and then Amalie Gamache and Royer put the Wildcats up, 4-1, with 3:34 to play in the opening quarter.

Makenzie Stritzinger scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter, pushing the Wildcats ahead, 7-2, and then Ella Royer finished off a feed from Alea Javorowsky with 5:06 to play in the second quarter, which would be the final goal of the frame to send the Wildcats into the break leading 8-3.

The Tigers started the third quarter with a goal but then Amelie Gamache started a 5-0 spurt to pull away from the Tigers. Anastasia Giannoulis scored back-to-back free position goals before Royer and Javorowsky put the Wildcats ahead, 13-4.

The Wildcats also scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter, as Stritzinger scored two goals in the quarter with Royer and Gamache adding final goals as well, taking their largest lead of the game, 17-5.

Makenzie Stritzinger and Ella Royer led the Wildcats with five goals each while Alea Javorowsky scored a goal and added five assists for a game-high six points. Amelie Gamache added four goals and an assist while Anastasia Giannoulis scored two goals and added an assist. Taylor Culver led the defense with two caused turnovers and six ground balls. Katie Vindigni made seven saves in the victory.

The Wildcats have one final game to close out the regular season as they host Caldwell on Friday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening draw is set for 12:00 p.m.
