Samantha Emmi Named CACC Defensive Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Sophomore centerback Samantha Emmi has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Samantha Emmi (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) helped lead the Wildcats to a 2-1 record last week, defeating Staten Island, 4-0, and Felician, 3-0, but falling to Bridgeport, 2-1, to start the week.

The defender has stepped in on set pieces all year, and this week was no different, as she scored a goal and had two assists in the team's three games.

She scored the team's lone goal against Bridgeport, heading home a corner from Kasie Lambert to tie the game, 1-1, in the 22nd minute. Her set piece in the 49th minute set up a header from Rockesha Dayes against Staten Island, and then she assisted on the game-winning goal by Jimena Garcia Risoto in the 41st minute at Felician.

On the year, she has three goals and two assists and is third on the team with eight points.

Teammate Rockesha Dayes was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for scoring two goals and adding an assist against Staten Island. Men's soccer's Mamadou Diombera was named to the Weekly Honor Roll as well for scoring the game-winner at Felician. And volleyball's Heather Pedrick was also named to the Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 week on the court.
