LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team outshot and earned more corners in the game, but Georgian Court scored an early second half goal to win the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference battle at Investors Savings Bank Field.
The Wildcats (8-3, 5-1 CACC) outshot the Lions (8-3, 5-1 CACC), 16-4, including shots on goal, 7-2, while earning more corners, 7-2. But it was one of the two shots on goal for the Lions that found the back of the net, breaking the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute.
Evelyn Payne had two shots on goal saved in the first half while Jordan Siok had a great opportunity in the 40th minute that was stopped as well.
Georgian Court scored on its first shot of the second half, scoring after a long cross to the top of the box and scoring past a drawn-out Mio Nakajima.
Maria Leguizamon had a header off a corner saved in the 73rd minute and Alexa Pacheco nearly put in a rebound in the 77th minute, but her header sailed over the crossbar. Julia Yuhase's shot in the 80th minute from atop the 18-yard box was smothered. The last shot came in the 85th minute as Brianna Wons' bouncing volley was wide left.
After having this weekend off from games, the Wildcats begin a four-game homestand next Thursday when they welcome Jefferson to the WU Athletics Complex. The opening kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
