Men’s Golf, Cross Country, and Soccer Give Wilmington Leg Up in CACC Restaino Cup After Fall

FULL RESTAINO CUP STANDINGS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Wilmington University sits in first place in the 2022-23 CACC Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup standings for men's sports following the recently completed fall season with a top average score of 11.0833. The announcment of the up-to-date standings was made on Tuesday by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara. The Wildcats first-place score was aided by three solid finishes by Wildcat men's teams during the fall, including men's golf finishing second in the conference's October championship, followed by men's cross country placing third, and the men's soccer squad reaching the CACC semifinals.

The point system used for the award takes into account each athletic program's finish in both the 2022-23 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of men's sports the institution competes in during the season. The updated Restaino Cup men's standings will be announced in late March following the completion of the basketball season, while the final standings will be announced in late May after the conclusion of the spring championship season. The award is named after the late Bloomfield College Director of Athletics and Head Coach Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., who served a vital role in not just the school's athletic department but also in the enhancement of the CACC.

The Wildcats' golf team secured 12 points for their second place finish at the CACC Championship while the men's cross country team picked up 11 more points for their third place finish at the title race. The men's soccer team earned 10 points for the regular season and 10.5 points for their appearance in the CACC Tournament Semifinals, for a 10.25 average. The 33.25 total points, divided by the three sports gives the Wildcats their 11.08333 total average to lead the CACC through the Fall.

Holy Family University and Thomas Jefferson University rounded out the top three in second and third place, respectively. HFU's second-place spot (9.1250) in the standings was bolstered by the soccer team finishing second in the regular season standings and advancing to the CACC semifinals. Jefferson (9.0833) was helped by cross country earning runner-up status in late October at the conference championship race.

Post University, which claimed the CACC Men's Soccer Championship, sits in fourth place after the fall season with a mark of 8.6667. Georgian Court University, the men's cross country champion, is fifth with a score of 8.5000, while Goldey-Beacom College -- the men's golf champ -- is seventh at 7.6667.
