NEWARK, Del. - - A third-quarter run extended Holy Family's lead out of reach as the Tigers took a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division contest from the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Tuesday night at the WU Athletics Complex.

Holy Family (20-5, 10-3 CACC), ranked tied for sixth in this week's D2CSC Women's Basketball East Regional Poll, turned 18 Wilmington (1-24, 0-14 CACC) turnovers into 24 points at the other end. The Wildcats held the Tigers to only 37.3 percent shooting from the floor and just 7-of-29 from deep but only shot 27.4 percent for the game themselves.

Amber Washington started the third quarter with a three-pointer to bring the Wildcats to within four points, 32-28, but that is when the Tigers caught fire. The Tigers then spent the next 1:31 of game time to score 11 straight points, including a four-point play, and a final steal and bucket to make it 43-28 with 6:35 to play in the quarter. Another three-pointer gave the Tigers their largest lead of the quarter, 52-31 before Trinity Brittingham hit a three-pointer and Amber Washington hit a jumper to end the quarter and the Wildcats trailed 52-36.

The Tigers' lead grew to as large as 22 points in the fourth quarter, stopping any run from the Wildcats to finish out the win.

The game started well for the Wildcats despite going down by as many as 11 in the first quarter. Aniyah Bond hit a three-pointer and then had a put back layup to end the quarter, and the Tigers' lead was cut to 19-12 after one quarter of play. Bond hit another three-pointer to start the second quarter to cut the deficit to four points, but the Tigers stretched it back out to 11. Amber Washington then started a 6-0 run with a layup and then two buckets from Trinity Brittingham to make it 26-21. Brittingham made two from the foul line to cut the deficit to five points, but the Tigers had a putback at the buzzer to give the visitors a 32-25 lead at the halftime break.

Aniyah Bond led the Wildcats with 15 points, adding four rebounds and two blocked shots. Trinity Brittingham added 11 points off the bench while Amber Washington chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Daja Claiborne and Azayah Garrison led the Wildcats with six rebounds each.

The Wildcats' four-game homestand ends next Wednesday as they host Georgian Court at the WU Athletics Complex for their final home game of the season. The women tip things off starting at 6:00 p.m. against the Lions.
