CALDWELL, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team had a lead in each half, but Caldwell answered each Wildcats goal with a goal of its own, as the two played to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tie on Sunday afternoon at the Caldwell Athletic Fields.

The tie keeps the Wildcats in second place with three games to play, sitting with 17 points with a 5-1-2 conference record. The Wildcats are now 8-2-4 overall.

The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 12th minute but the Cougars (5-3-5, 3-1-5 CACC) answered in the 29th minute to take the game into the break, 1-1. The Wildcats then scored early in the second half, retaking the lead in the 54th minute. But the Cougars retaliated with nine minutes left, tying the match, 2-2.

Manuela Restrepo tapped in her CACC leading 10th goal to start the scoring, receiving a cross from the endline from Evelyn Payne. Payne broke down her defender and got to the endline, finding Restrepo in the middle of the goal with an open net. She now has 10 goals and a CACC leading 29 points.

Caldwell converted a PK in the 29th minute and the Wildcats and Cougars went into the break knotted at 1-1.

Early in the second half, Alyssa Ruggeri took a throw in from Ellie Lawrence in the box. She made a turn and went to the far post, scoring her fourth goal of the year in the 54th minute.

But the Cougars had an answer yet again, scoring in the 81st minute. Following a free kick from the left side that was punched away from Mio Nakajima, a scramble in the box ensued and ended with a goal to tie the game, 2-2.

The Wildcats outshot the Cougars, 18-11, but the teams were even in getting shots on frame, 6-6. The Wildcats earned more corners, 7-4, including 3-1 in the second half. Both goalkeepers made four saves in the contest.

The Wildcats return home for their final regular season home game on Wednesday afternoon. The team will honor its seniors prior to the start of the game. The opening whistle is set for 3:30 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
