Five Wildcats Garner All-Region Baseball Honors 

NEW CASTLE, DE -- Five members of the Wilmington University baseball team have earned All-East Region honors for their performances this past season.  The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings sponsored one team, while the NCAA and Daktronics put together another squad.  The final All-Region team was created by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA).  All three teams were comprised of student-athletes from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the East Coast Conference (ECC) and the Northeast-10 Conference. 

Joe Harris (Daniel Boone HS/Douglassville, PA), Mike Godwin (A.I. DuPont HS/Hockessin, DE), Jordan Oncay (St. Mark's HS/Newark, DE), Matt Umba (Gloucester Catholic HS/West Deptford, NJ), Jamie Treml (Hodgson Vo-Tech HS/Newark, DE), were the five Wildcats who earned the All-Region honors.

Godwin, a junior catcher, was named 1st Team NCBWA and 2nd Team ABCA All-East Region.  The CACC Player of the Year hit .355 with 23 extra base hits, 45 RBI, and 32 runs scored.  He lead the conference in doubles (20), RBI, and was second in the league in hitting.

Oncay, a junior outfielder, earned 1st Team honors from all three organizations (ABCA, NCAA, and NCBWA).  Oncay, was third on the team in batting (.351) and RBI (33), while finishing second in runs (43), doubles (15), triples (6).  He led the squad in total bases (87). 

Umba, a senior utility player, was a 1st Team ABCA and NCAA All-Region selection and also earned 2nd Team NCBWA honors. He led the 'Cats in hitting with a .368 average, while also topping the squad in hits (64).  Umba was second on the team in RBIs (35), stolen bases (20), total bases (86), and slugging percentage (.448), while finishing third in runs (40) and doubles (12). 

Harris, a senior left-handed pitcher, was a 1stTeam NCAA and NCBWA and 2nd Team ABCA All-East Region award winner.  The CACC Pitcher of the Year went 8-3 with a 1.54 earned run average.  He led the CACC in strikeouts (98), while opponents hit just .188 off of him.

Treml, a freshman left-handed pitcher, was tabbed ABCA Rookie of the Year.  He also earned CACC Rookie of the Year honors after going 9-1 with a 1.92 ERA.  He was second in the conference in strikeouts (99).  Opponents hit just .167 off of him, and he ranked fifth in NCAA Division II in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (5.12). 

These five Wildcats helped lead Wilmington to a 37-12 overall record, including a 15-5 mark in the CACC.  The 'Cats won the CACC Championship, and earned a berth to the NCAA East Regional Tournament.
