OMAHA, Neb. - - The initial watch list for the fourth annual Tino Martinez DII Baseball Player of the Year Award as been release and Wilmington University's standout ace Jamie Treml has been included. The list included 151 top amateur athletes from across the nation.

The Tino Martinez DII Player of the Year award is presented to the most outstanding player in NCAA Division II college baseball during the season. The annual honor is named after the former University of Tampa Spartan, United States Olympian, MLB first round draft pick, and MLB All-Start first baseman Tino Martinez.

Treml already earned preseason recognition for being named to the Preseason First Team All-East Region team last week. Last season as a sophomore, Treml earned Second Team All-CACC and Second Team All-American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region honors after going 5-2 with a 1.70 earned run average.

The Bear, Del. native turned it on late in the year, setting a new tournament record with 16 strikeouts in his only start of the CACC Tournament, a game in which the Wildcats eventually won 1-0. He then pitched in the NCAA Regional opening round, leading the team to another 1-0 win over Le Moyne.

Treml is the lone representative from the CACC on the preseason player of the year watch list.

Initial nominations for the award were made by baseball sports information contacts, coaches and media members. A panel of media, coaches and sports information officers was polled to finalize the candidates and determine the winner. A fan Internet vote also contributes to the final vote.

The recipient of the 2012 Tino Martinez Award was senior first baseman Nathan Minnich of Shepherd University (W.Va.). Minnich finished the season batting .487 (74 for 152) with 21 home runs, 12 doubles and 72 RBIs, while racking up a .980 slugging percentage. He led the country in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, walks per game and RBIs.
