Baseball Moves Up to No. 5 in NCBWA East Region Poll

NEWARK, Del. - - Back-to-back 3-1 weekends have pushed the Wilmington University baseball team up to No. 5 in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll, as voted on by nine sports information directors in the region.

In the opening weekend, the Wildcats went 3-1 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and then this past weekend, the Wildcats traveled to Durham, North Carolina, and went 3-1 again. Their lone loss this past weekend was to regionally ranked St. Thomas Aquinas, splitting a doubleheader.

The weekend started with a 3-2 victory against the Spartans, and then the Wildcats dropped a close 1-0 decision to the Spartans in the nightcap. The Wildcats then defeated Pace, 4-2, and Mansfield, 4-2.

Molloy and Goldey-Beacom continue to sit atop the East Region Poll this week while Queens and Southern New Hampshire all moved up one spot. The Wildcats moved up two spots to No. 5 while Southern Connecticut State dropped three spots to sixth this week.

Bentley moved up to three spots to seventh while St. Thomas Aquinas moved up a spot to No. 8. Franklin Pierce fell three spots to nine while Post rejoined the poll at No. 10 after receiving votes last week.

The Wildcats travel south again this week, heading to the Sunshine State to play a pair of Florida schools as well as three East Region opponents. The week starts In Miami Shores at Barry University. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
