Carnell Lofton Jr. Named a Second Team 2024 USILA Preseason All-American

NEWARK, Del. - - Graduate student transfer Carnell Lofton Jr. has already made a splash with the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team by being named a Second Team 2024 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Preseason All-American heading into the season.

A local product, Carnell Lofton Jr. graduated from Cab Calloway in Delaware before beginning his collegiate career at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). After NYIT closed its athletics doors, Lofton went to the University of the District of Columbia where he spent the past two seasons.

The faceoff technician went 204-for-308 at the dot last year or the Firebirds, a .662 winning percentage. In two seasons at UDC, Lofton went 354-for-551, good enough for a .642 winning percentage. He also scored eight goals and added nine assists for 17 points in his two seasons with the Firebirds.

There were two student-athletes named to the First Team Preseason All-American Team, both from teams that earned a spot in the 2023 NCAA National Tournament. Only Mercy's Jason Kuehner and Bentley's Cam Bartolomeo are predicted to have better seasons then Carnell Lofton Jr.

The Wildcats' season begins Saturday, February 24, when they travel to Mercyhurst who played for the National Championship last season. The opening face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Erie, Pennsylvania.
