Lawrence Named Pitcher of the Year - Three Wildcats Garner All-CACC Honors

NEW CASTLE, DE -- Freshman hurler Kim Lawrence (McKean HS/Wilmington, DE) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year.  Amanda Mucaria (Newark HS/Newark, DE) was awarded first-team All-CACC honors while Heather Bush (McKean HS/Hockessin, DE) received second-team honors.

Lawrence, a freshman right-hander, went 19-5 with a 1.34 ERA in 27 appearances.  She led the CACC in wins, earned run average, opponents' batting average, shutouts (3), saves (2), and fewest walks.  In 167.2 innings pitched, Lawrence struck out 136 while only walking 28, and her opponents hit a dismal .228 against her.   For her efforts, she was also awarded first-team All-CACC honors, one of only two freshmen to make the first team.

Mucaria, a senior outfielder, finished the year hitting .401 with 34 runs scored, 18 extra-base hits, and 23 RBIs.  She was third in the conference in hits (59), fourth in doubles (13), and sixth in total bases (85).  A former first-team selection in 2005, Mucaria led the Wildcats in batting, slugging percentage (.578), on-base percentage (.452), total bases, runs, doubles, triples, and only made one error while playing every inning of every game in left field.

Bush, a freshman second baseman, closed out the season with a .331 average.  She recorded 25 RBIs, 22 runs scored, and tied for the team lead in home runs (4).  Bush was third on the team in batting, slugging percentage (.486), hits (47), and fourth in total bases (69).

The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 16-6 record in the CACC and an overall record of 31-15.  The most improved team in the conference from a year ago when they were 9-31, Wilmington finished third in the regular season and also placed third in the CACC Championship Tournament.
