Wilmington Duo Named to 2007 Daktronics Softball All-Northeast Region Team

NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington College is pleased to announce that softball standouts, Kim Lawrence (McKean HS/Wilmington, DE) and Amanda Mucaria (Newark HS/Newark, DE) were named to the Daktronics All-Northeast Region second team for their performances this past season. The All-Region teams were chosen by the head coaches and sports information directors in the Northeast Region, which includes teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the East Coast Conference, and the Northeast 10 Conference.

Lawrence, a freshman right-hander, went 19-5 with a 1.34 ERA in 27 appearances.  The CACC Pitcher of the Year, she led the conference in wins, earned run average, opponents' batting average, shutouts (3), saves (2), and fewest walks.  In 167.2 innings pitched, Lawrence struck out 136 while only walking 28, and her opponents hit a dismal .228 against her.   For her efforts, she was also awarded first-team All-CACC honors, and also was one of only five freshmen to make the All-Region team.

Mucaria, a senior outfielder, finished the year hitting .401 with 34 runs scored, 18 extra-base hits, and 23 RBIs.  She was third in the conference in hits (59), fourth in doubles (13), and sixth in total bases (85).  A first-team All-CACC selection, Mucaria led the Wildcats in batting, slugging percentage (.578), on-base percentage (.452), total bases, runs, doubles, triples, and only made one error while playing every inning of every game in left field.

Both Lawrence and Mucaria are the first Wildcat softball members in school history to have earned All-Region honors, as Wilmington made the move to NCAA Division II in 2004.

The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 16-6 record in the CACC, an overall record of 31-15, and were regionally ranked for only the second time in school and program history.     The most improved team in the conference from a year ago when they were 9-31, Wilmington finished third in the regular season and also placed third in the CACC Championship Tournament.
