Wilmington University Softball Announces 2011 Recruiting Class

NEW CASTLE, DE – Wilmington University Softball Coach Erin Harvey and her staff are pleased to announce their recruiting class for the upcoming 2011 season. 

The Wildcats are adding eight new student-athletes to their roster.  Joining the program are five freshmen and three transfers.  The incoming freshmen are Allison Bittner (Perry Hall HS/Baltimore, MD), Kayla Carrow (Smyrna HS/Smyrna , DE), Danielle Griffin (Woodbridge HS/Greenwood, DE), Meghan Logullo  (Caravel Academy /Middletown, DE), and Rachel Painter (St. Elizabeth HS/New Castle, DE).

Allison Bittner, a catcher/utility player from Perry Hall High School, was a three-time All-Baltimore County selection.  A two-time All-Baltimore Metro award winner, she helped lead the Gators to the second round of the state tournament.  Kayla Carrow, an infielder from Smyrna High School is a four-year player for the Eagles.  An All-Henlopen Conference selection, she led the Eagles to the semi-finals of the state tournament.  Danielle Griffin, a pitcher, hails from Woodbridge High School, where she was a four-time All-Henlopen Conference selection for the Raiders.  Meghan Logullo, an outfielder from Caravel Academy, is a four-year player for the Buccaneers, where she helped them win the Delaware State Championship this past season.  Rounding out the freshmen is Rachel Painter, a catcher/first baseman from St. Elizabeth High School.  She is a former All-State award winner who plays travel ball for the Delaware Sabres organization.

Wilmington is also adding three transfers in Kelly Bowen (Mount Olive College/Delaware Military Academy/Wilmington, DE), Christin Headley (University of Delaware/Sussex Central HS/Georgetown, DE), and Katie Warrington (Liberty University/Red Lion Christian Academy/Townsend, DE). 

Kelly Bowen, an outfielder, comes to the 'Cats from Mount Olive College in North Carolina, and will enter her junior year of eligibility.  She appeared in 29 games for the Knights, who finished fifth in the Conference Carolinas, scoring 12 runs.  Christin Headley, will be a red-shirt freshman this season after sitting out a year after transferring from the University of Delaware.  A shortstop, she was two-time state champion with the Sussex Central Golden Knights, where she was awarded All-Henlopen Conference honors three times.  Rounding out the transfers is pitcher Katie Warrington, who comes to Wilmington after spending last season at Division I Liberty University.  Warrington appeared in 27 games for the Flames, compiling an 8-7 record with a 3.88 earned run average.  A two-time first-team All-State and All-Conference selection for Red Lion Christian Academy, she tallied over 1,000 strikeouts during her high school career. 

"We are ecstatic to have these eight players join us and look forward to their arrival", stated Coach Harvey.  She added, "This is one of the best recruiting classes we have ever put together, and they should fit in nicely with our returning players, while giving the squad the deepest team we've had in quite some time.  Each should challenge for significant playing time, and it should make for some extremely competitive softball here at Wilmington."

These new recruits join ten returning student-athletes on a Wildcat squad that finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 20-24-1 (12-14 in the CACC).  Wilmington University is an NCAA Division II institution located in New Castle, Delaware, that competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.  The Conference is comprised of 14 schools throughout Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut.
