NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University is pleased to announce that softball standout Katie Warrington (Red Lion Christian Academy/Townsend, DE) has been named to the College Division Capital One Academic All-American Third Team. The teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Warrington, a sophomore pitcher, went 15-9 with a 0.96 earned run average in 29 appearances. The CACC Pitcher of the Year and first-team All-CACC selection, she led the CACC in earned run average, saves (4), strikeouts, strikeouts/7 innings (9.60), opponents' batting average, and fewest hits/7 innings (4.23). In 167.2 innings pitched, Warrington struck out 230 while walking only 19, and her opponents hit a dismal .170 against her. She ranked second in the conference in shutouts (6) and fewest walks/7 innings (0.79). Warrington ranked among NCAA Division II leaders in ERA (7th), saves (7th), fewest walks (11th), strikeouts/7 innings (12th), hits/7 innings (12th), and 18th in total strikeouts.
She was recently named First-Team NCAA Daktronics All-East Region, while also garnering Second-Team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors as well. Warrington is just the second Wildcat to earn two-All-Region awards in the same season, and her first-team Daktronics nod was the first in program history.
To go along with her on the field accomplishments, Warrington sports a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in Sports Management. She was the only underclassman honored among the 34 student-athletes in the college division. Warrington becomes the first Wildcat in any sport to earn Academic All-American honors.
