Case, Stafford, and Warrington Earn Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three Wilmington University student-athletes were named in this week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Reports, as women's lacrosse Liz Case and softball's Jillian Stafford were named CACC Players of the Week and softball's Katie Warrington was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week, announced on Monday.

Case (Perry Hall, Md./Mercy) helped lead the women's lacrosse team to a 1-1 week, beating Post on Saturday. The senior scored eight goals and added four assists for the week, totaling 12 points. All three marks were team highs. Her week started with a hat trick and an assist in a loss at Philadelphia before she finished her CACC career with a five goal, three assist effort against Post.

Already the program's all-time leader in assists, Case is one goal shy of becoming the fourth Wilmington laxer to record 100 career goals with one game to play. She is also currently eight assists shy of 100 for her career, as she moved into second all-time with 191 points.

It is the first time in 2013 that Case has earned the CACC Player of the Week distinction, but the second of her career. She was also named the CACC Player of the Week on April 18, 2012.

Stafford (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester) hit an astounding .818 in the softball team's four games this week, going a combined 9-for-11 with four doubles and a home run while slugging 1.455. She also reached base at a .846 clip, drawing two walks on the week. Stafford also scored a team high seven runs in leading the team to a 4-0 week.

The senior utility player collected multiple hits in each game last week, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI's and five runs scored in a doubleheader sweep over Chestnut Hill. She followed that up with a 2-for-4 performance with two doubles and two RBI's in game one against Nyack, while also throwing a complete game, one-hitter in the circle. She finished he week by going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in game two on Saturday.

With her home run in the first game against Chestnut Hill, Stafford set a new mark for RBI's in a single season, knocking in her 38th run on the season. She broke the mark of 37 set by Kelly Schirmer in 2007. It is the second time this season that Stafford has been named the CACC Player of the Week, also accomplishing the feat with the season's first report back on March 5.

Warrington (Townsend, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) picked up her third CACC Pitcher of the Week award for 2013, going 2-0 from inside the circle in 11 innings. She did not allow a run in her two starts while striking out 24 combined batters and giving up only four hits. She was also named CACC Pitcher of the week on March 5 and April 8 this season. It is the ninth time that Warrington has been named the CACC Pitcher of the Week in her career.

In her first game of the week, Warrington tossed the first four innings, striking out seven batters while only allowing two hits against Chestnut Hill. She followed that up with a complete game shutout on Saturday, tying a season high with 17 strikeouts against Nyack on Senior Day. She only allowed two hits on Saturday while not walking a batter in the two games. She is now 14-3 on the year.
