Warrington and Stafford Named NFCA All-East Region Second Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - A pair of Wilmington University softball student-athletes impressed the coaching staffs from around the NCAA Division II East Region, as Katie Warrington and Killian Stafford were voted to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region Second Team for their play throughout the 2013 season.

Both seniors, Warrington (Townsend, Del.) and Stafford (Gloucester City, N.J.) helped lead the Wildcats to their most impressive season to date, winning a record 34 games, including a record 19 contests in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The team earned the third seed in the CACC Tournament and going 2-2.

Warrington was named NFCA All-East Region Second Team for the second time in her career, as she also picked up the honor as a sophomore in 2011, her first season as a Wildcat. She earns the honor after being named First Team All-CACC and the CACC Pitcher of the Year in 2013, leading the conference with 230 strikeouts and a 0.99 earned run average.

The right-handed pitcher went 17-5 this season, tossing 134.1 innings while tying her own school record for strikeouts in a season with 230. Warrington was a part of 11 shutouts in the season, throwing 16 complete games. Hitters only batted .160 against her. She struck out a season high 17 batters twice this year, first against Felician in a non-conference game in Clermont, Fla., and then against Nyack on Senior Day. Warrington threw 13 games with double digit strikeouts for the year, compiling 645 strikeouts for her three-year career.

It is the first time in Stafford's two year career at Wilmington she has been named All-Region, earning NFCA All-East Region Second Team as a utility/pitcher. The senior batted .366 with a single season school record of 51 RBI's on the year. She hit 18 doubles and included three triples and two home runs while playing and starting in 53 games. Stafford led the team with 15 multiple RBI games, knocking in five runners in a game twice.

In the circle, the senior went 6-4 in 16 appearances, throwing 70 innings with a 2.90 earned run average. Stafford made seven starts and was a part of three shutouts on the year, going 1-1 at the CACC Tournament. She collected 40 strikeouts; including a season and career best nine in her first start against Michigan-Dearborn in Clermont, Fla. She also tossed a complete game one hitter with seven strikeouts against Nyack on Senior Day.

The CACC had four players named on the NFCA All-East Region First Team while also producing one other player on the Second Team.
