NEWARK, Del. - - Mike Shehorn, an assistant coach during the 2013 season at Wilmington University, has been named as the head softball coach of the Wildcats, as announced by Director of Athletics Linda Van Drie-Andrzjewski.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Shehorn as our new head softball coach," Andrzjewski said. "He is extremely knowledgeable about the game, and his passion and enthusiasm fit perfectly with our program."
Shehorn spent the 2013 season on staff as a volunteer assistant, helping the team to a program best 34-20 record, as well as a program record 19 wins in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The team earned the third seed for the CACC Tournament, going 2-2 with wins over Holy Family and USciences.
Prior to working as an assistant last season, Shehorn was the head softball coach at Caesar Rodney High School in Dover, Del., starting with the 2005 season. During his eight seasons at Caesar Rodney, Shehorn led his teams to a 93-70 overall record and two appearances in the Delaware State Semifinals. He was also named the state Coach of the Year in 2006.
The Wildcats return eight student-athletes from the 2013 roster, including a pair of pitchers and two position starters. Shehorn will begin his coaching tenure by welcoming 11 new student-athletes to the program.
Shehorn resides in Magnolia, Delaware with his wife Nicole and daughter Skye.
Shehorn begins his duties as head softball coach at Wilmington University immediately.
