Katie Warrington and Brook Ash Capture Final 2013 CACC Softball Weekly Accolades

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Closing out the regular season with a 4-2 week, Wilmington University softball players Katie Warrington and Brook Ash were honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference by earning a spot on the Weekly Report on Monday afternoon.

Warrington (Townsend, Del.) and Ash (Millsboro, Del.) continued their outstanding 2013 season this past week, helping the team clinch the third seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament. For their efforts Warrington was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week while Ash was named a CACC Co-Rookie of the Week.

It is the fourth time this season and 10th time in her career that Warrington has been named the CACC Pitcher of the Week. She tossed her second career no-hitter this past week, striking out 11 Concordia batters in game two on Saturday, clinching the third see in next week's CACC Tournament. She went 2-1 this week, striking out 33 batters and lowering her season ERA to a CACC low 0.90.

The senior fell victim to a tough Holy Family team to start the week, striking out 11 batters but took the 1-0 loss as the offense fell silent. Warrington came back and struck 11 more batters out in a 6-5 win over Georgian Court before throwing a no-hitter at Concordia on Saturday. In all, she allowed six runs (three earned) while only walking one batter in 20 innings.

Ash earned CACC Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season, leading the Wildcats with a .619 average in the six games. She batted 13-for-21 with four runs and an RBI. The freshman also extended her hitting streak to 22 straight games, collecting at least one hit in every game this past week. She now leads the CACC with a .453 batting average.

The outfielder went a week's best 4-for-4 in game one against Georgian Court, following that up with a 3-for-4 performance in game two. Ash knocked in the game-tying run with a single into right field in the first game while scoring a run in each contest. She finished off the week with another 3-for-4 performance against Concordia, scoring two more runs in game two.

Ash was named CACC Co-Rookie of the Week with Dominican's Kimberly Ragazzo who hit .462 (6-13) with a double, three home runs, and nine RBI's. She also went 3-0 in the circle for the Chargers. University of the Sciences senior outfielder Erin Summers was named the CACC Player of the Week after going a perfect 7-for-7 with two home runs, a double, three RBI's and three runs scored in the team's only doubleheader against Caldwell.

The Wildcats start the CACC Tournament on Thursday with a game against No. 6 seed Holy Family at 12 p.m. The tournament is being hosted by Georgian Court in Lakewood, N.J.
