NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Wilmington University standout softball pitcher Katie Warrington has been chosen as the 2013 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row, announced today by the CACC Commissioner Dan Mara.
Warrington, along with Felician College's Rob Albano who earned the conference's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award, will now be eligible for the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
Warrington is no stranger to the award as she was chosen as the 2012 recipient of the CACC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The 2013 conference nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor ended her career at Wilmington with a 3.99 grade point average en route to her selection as a Capital One Academic All-America First Team. The CACC Pitcher of the Year was also named National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region Second Team and CACC All-Conference First Team after leading the conference with a 0.99 earned run average (3rd in the NCAA) and was second in the NCAA in strikeouts per seven innings (11.98).
Warrington was honored as the CACC Pitcher of the Week three times (3/5; 4/8; 4/22), is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, a Wilmington Academic All-Star and was recently named to the CACC Spring All-Academic Team. The Sports Management major led the Wildcats to a team record 13 conference wins.
Albano is the second Felician student-athlete to garner the CACC Male Student-Athlete of the Year award (Devon Young, 2011). The senior Elementary Education major owns a 3.76 grade point average and was recently selected as the Felician Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Albano is the most decorated harrier in Golden Falcon history as he is the first to earn two all-region honors and is the first CACC student-athlete to capture the league's Runner of the Year award twice. Last Fall, Albano won all four of his regular-season races in addition to claiming the conference championship meet. The CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-America selection set the 8k school record at the New Jersey Institute of Technology on October 7 with a time of 24:33 and is the only Felician runner to ever finish in the regionals in the top-10 with his eight place showing.
The two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American has captured the conference's Runner of the Week 18 times in his career, owns 12 school course records, won nine career invitational races and has posted the top-five 8k times in program history. In 2012, Albano was named to the CoSIDA All-Academic Third Team and was the number one runner on Felician's CACC Championship teams of 2010 and 2011.
