NEWARK, Del. - - For the second time in program history, the Wilmington University softball team will host an NCAA Division II East Regional Pod, earning the No. 2 seed with Asbury Field in New Castle being the site starting on Thursday, May 11.

The Wildcats will play host to No. 3 Georgian Court University Lions, No. 6 Franklin Pierce University Ravens, and the No. 7 Pace University Setters. The Wildcats will square off against Pace in the opening round on Thursday, May 11 with a 1:30 p.m. start.

Wilmington earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference automatic qualification into the Regionals after winning the CACC Tournament on Saturday. They were also ranked No. 2 in all the preliminary NCAA rankings leading up to the Selection Show on Monday morning.

Top seed Adelphi will host the other four-team pod, while No. 4 Bentley, No. 5 Caldwell, and No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas will head to Garden City, New York for the other half of the bracket.

The two winning teams from the pods will face off in the East Super Regional best-of-three series next weekend.

This is the seventh NCAA Regional appearance for the Wildcats, all coming under head coach Mike Shehorn. The Wildcats played hosts in 2019 and won the 2022 East Region 2 Tournament in Lakewood, New Jersey, last season.

No. 3 Georgian Court and No. 6 Franklin Pierce kick off the weekend at Asbury Field with their First Round game on Thursday, May 11, with a first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
