Now in his second season with the Wildcats, Joe Ziemba joined the Wilmington University softball program in 2015, bringing more than 12 years of coaching experience to the Wildcat coaching staff.

Ziemba comes to Wilmington following successful travel ball experiences, most recently as the Head Coach and President of the Delaware Cobras starting in 2002. He also coached the Midway Orange Crush during the 2000, 2001, and 2002 travel ball seasons.

While coaching girls as young as the U10 age group, Ziemba has had the most success while coaching at the U14, U16, and U18 levels. He took his U14 team to a fifth place finish at the NSA National Tournament in 2006, besting a field of 119 teams. Three years later, he coached the team to the U16 ASA State Championship as well as a seventh place finish at the NSA National Tournament out of 123 teams.

Ziemba coached the team to it best finish ever during the 2010 NSA Nationals, finishing the U18 age group in fifth place out of 138 teams. The girls also went on to win back-to-back ASA State Champions in 2011 and 2012.

Driven by efficiency and discipline, Ziemba has been responsible for instruction of technique and continuous skill improvement in hand-eye, coordination, hand and foot work, speed, batting, and strength. Twenty-three former players are currently playing collegiate softball, with the majority in Division I and II.

Ziemba’s oldest daughter, Tessa, played four seasons of softball at Hofstra University from 2010-13. Tessa was a two-time First Team All-CAA selection and a two-time Second Team All-CAA selection as an outfielder. She was also named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team as a junior and NFCA All-Northeast Region Second Team as a freshman. Tessa is tied for the Hofstra career RBI mark, knocking in 180 RBI for her career. She is also fifth in the all-time record books with 231 hits, second with 39 career home runs, and fifth with 148 runs scored.

Ziemba’s second daughter, Cambria, is a junior infielder on the 2015 Wilmington University softball team. He also has a third daughter, Kendra.

Outside of softball, Ziemba is a pipefitter UA Local 74 Plumbers & Pipefitters in Newark, Del. He resides in Wilmington with his wife, Trisha.
