Track and Field Teams Finish Second at Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet; Eliza Hildreth Sets New Women’s 200 Program Record

SALISBURY, MD - - The Wilmington University track and field teams started its 2024 spring season with second-place finishes at the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet, hosted by Salisbury University.

The men collected 148 points to finish second only to the host Seagulls who had 251 points while the women finished second with 96 points, behind only the host Seagulls with 241 points.

The men were highlighted by nine individual winners on Saturday, with Matthew Hibbert being a part of three first-place events. Hibbert won the 100 with a time of 11:30 seconds, the 200 with a time of 22.69 seconds, and was a member of the 4x100 team that won in a time of 43.00 seconds.

Newcomer Dallas Parker won two events, winning the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.27 seconds and the triple jump with a distance of 12.67 meters. Fellow newcomer Rayhan Issah also finished first in two events, winning the long jump with a distance of 6.16 meters and was a member of the 4x100 meter relay team as well.

Newcomer Sage Phillips won the 400-meter race with a time of 49.48 while Joel Oquendo won the 800-distance event with a time of 2:05.75. Trent Taylor won the 5000-meter race with a time of 15:48 while Elijah Gillis and Tyler Levons were the other two members of the 4x100-meter relay team.

The women were highlighted by a new program record set by a freshman making her collegiate debut. Eliza Hildreth broke the program's 200-meter record with a time of 26.54, besting Kayla Crawford's mark of 26.81 set during the 2021 CACC Championships. Hildreth also won the 400-meter event on Saturday with a time of 1:03.58.

The throwers produced two winners as well for the women, as Jada Obegi won the discus with a toss of 31.09 meters. Viviana Caamano spun her way to a hammer championship on Saturday, with a day's best toss of 35.43 meters. Obegi finished second in the hammer as well, collecting a best toss of 34.48 meters.

Cassidy Burr finished second in the 5000-meter race while Leeah Eisenhower finished third in the javelin throw in her collegiate debut. Deja Curry finished third in the 400-meter event while the combination of Temi Mustapha, Tiffany Banning, Deja Curry, and Eliza Hildreth ran to a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing the line in 5:01.25.

The Wildcats make a trip south next weekend, returning to the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge hosted by the town of Myrtle Beach on Friday and Saturday.
