Taylor Carter of Wilmington Women’s Basketball Named to WBCA’s Coaching Program

On the heels of the 2014-2015 season, senior guard Taylor Carter was named to The Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) 13th annual "So You Want To Be A Coach" program. The program is highlighted by a three-day workshop in Tampa, Florida.

Carter, of Baltimore, Md., led the CACC conference in 3-point percentage this season at 43.1 percent. As a 16-game starter for the Wildcats, she shot 28 of 65 from behind the arc.

WBCA's "So You Want To Be A Coach Program" will take place April 3-5 in conjunction with the WBCA National Convention. After being founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association aims to promote women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport. In addition, they foster and promote the development of the game as a sport for women and girls.

According to the WBCA website, www.wbca.org, the main goal of the program is to develop student-athletes into great leaders and ambassadors for women's basketball, and WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew is thrilled with the outlook of this year's class. "The interest in the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program has been incredible this year, and we are ecstatic to see the numerous benefits this program has had on so many young, aspiring coaches," she said. "Each year, the WBCA works relentlessly to improve and develop this entry-level program."

In order to be qualified for the program, applicants must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year. In addition, Carter had to be nominated by head coach Tiffany Silver, an active WBCA member. Silver knows her well, coaching Carter at Western High School, where the 5-foot guard was a three-year letterwinner.

Each participant is selected based on her academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and the written recommendation from their head coach. In 2014, Carter was a Wilmington Academic All-Star and was inducted to Chi Alpha Sigma's Honor Society.
