Women’s Tennis Clinches No. 2 Seed For CACC Tournament; Falls to Jefferson, 4-3, for Second Time

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament this weekend with a 4-3 loss to Jefferson on Abraham J. Salaman Tennis Courts.

Monday completed the match that started on Saturday afternoon but was halted due to rain. The Wildcats led, 1-0, after the double's competition on Saturday, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. The match was pushed to Monday with all six singles yet to be played.

On Saturday, Siana MacDonald and Ines Oliveira won at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, while Gloria Barcaro and Elena Camacho won by the same score, 6-1, at No. 3 for the point. Jefferosn's Anouk and Alycia Veroux defeated Molly Carlberg and Ming-Fu Chen, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles to avoid the clean sweep.

On Monday, the Rams quickly tied the match with a win at No. 1 by freshman standout Anouk Oderkerk. Siana MacDonald gave the Wildcats the lead once more at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0 and 6-3, but the Rams came right back with a win at No. 3 to tie the match, 2-2. Molly Carlberg brought the Wildcats to within a point of the victory with a win at No. 4 singles, 6-3 and 6-4, but the Wildcats were unable to capitalize. The Rams took the final two matches of the day, winning on court No. 5 and No. 6 to take the victory, 4-3.

Jeffers swept the season series from the Wildcats and now stands at 10-0 overall and 8-0 in CACC play. They clinched the regular season title this afternoon and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming postseason tournament this weekend.

The Wildcats have one match remaining in the CACC regular season before hosting the 2025 CACC Tournament this weekend. They host Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday at the Delcastle Tennis Center with the first serve set for 1:00 p.m.
